• We are seeking a Relay Technician with strong experience in protective relay testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Opportunities are available in Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Ohio, and Indiana.
• Compensation is $75 to $85 per hour, with up to 40 hours of weekly overtime paid at time-and-a-half.
• A company vehicle is provided for field assignments.
• Perform testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protective relays and control systems.
• Test and commission electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based protective relays.
• Perform functional testing of protection and control systems associated with substations and electrical distribution systems.
• Test current transformers, potential transformers, circuit breakers, trip circuits, and associated protection equipment.
• Use relay test equipment to perform secondary injection and other required testing procedures.
• Review relay settings, protection schemes, electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
• Troubleshoot relay, control, and protection system issues in the field.
• Verify relay logic, inputs, outputs, communications, and trip functions.
• Document test results and complete accurate field reports and commissioning documentation.
• Follow NETA standards, company procedures, customer requirements, and applicable safety regulations.
• Coordinate testing activities with utilities, engineers, contractors, and other field personnel.
• Provide technical guidance to less experienced technicians when required.
• 5+ years of experience in protective relay testing, commissioning, electrical testing, or related field service work.
• Hands-on experience with protective relays and substation protection and control systems.
• Experience with relay test equipment and secondary injection testing.
• Familiarity with relay settings, protection schemes, control circuits, and electrical one-line diagrams.
• Experience with microprocessor-based protective relays is preferred.
• NETA certification or experience working to NETA standards is preferred.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical protection and control systems independently.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety practices and testing procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
• Ability to work extended hours and significant overtime when project schedules require it.
• Travel to utility, substation, industrial, commercial, and infrastructure project sites.
• Set up and operate relay test equipment and other electrical test equipment.
• Perform relay testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and functional checks.
• Verify protection schemes, relay logic, control circuits, and trip functions.
• Review relay settings and compare field conditions against project documentation.
• Troubleshoot protection and control issues and communicate findings to customers and project teams.
• Complete test reports, commissioning documentation, and other required field records.
• Coordinate daily testing activities with customers, engineers, contractors, and project teams.
• Follow site-specific safety requirements and company procedures.
• Work schedules may include extended days, weekends, and significant overtime depending on project requirements.
• $75 to $85 per hour.
