Compensation: $200,000–$250,000 base + performance bonus + executive benefits

We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Operations – Substation to lead and grow a $100M+ Texas-based business unit for a leading utility infrastructure contractor.
This is a true executive-level operational leadership position with full P&L responsibility and ownership across operations, project execution, financial performance, business development, customer relationships, workforce strategy, and future market expansion.
The successful candidate will take an established Substation operation and build upon its current platform, driving profitable growth while developing the people, processes, and customer relationships required to significantly expand the business.
Take full ownership of the $100M+ Substation business unit P&L, including revenue, margin, forecasting, overhead, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
Lead all Substation operations across Texas, ensuring projects are delivered safely, profitably, on schedule, and to customer expectations.
Develop and execute the business unit's growth strategy, identifying new markets, customers, project opportunities, and geographic expansion.
Drive business development and customer relationships with major utilities, municipalities, EPCs, and other strategic partners.
Oversee estimating, project selection, contract strategy, backlog development, and operational execution.
Establish accountability across Project Management, Field Operations, Estimating, Safety, Fleet, and other supporting functions.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key utility customers and serve as a senior executive representative of the business.
Identify opportunities to expand the company's Texas footprint through new offices, additional crews, expanded capabilities, and strategic hiring.
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing management organization capable of supporting continued growth.
Review operational and financial performance, identify risks and underperformance, and implement corrective action.
Partner with executive leadership on annual budgets, strategic planning, capital requirements, workforce planning, and long-term growth initiatives.
Ensure consistent compliance with company, OSHA, utility, contractual, and regulatory safety and quality requirements.
Drive a culture of safety, accountability, operational excellence, customer service, and profitable growth.
15+ years of progressive experience within utility construction / Substation / power delivery.
Proven leadership experience at the VP, Regional VP, Division President, General Manager, or equivalent level.
Demonstrated experience managing a $75M–$100M+ Substation business unit or comparable operation.
Strong track record of full P&L ownership and profitable growth.
Deep understanding of Substation construction, including associated utility infrastructure and electrical construction work.
Proven business development and customer relationship experience with major utilities.
Experience building and scaling organizations, including hiring and developing senior operational leadership.
Strong financial, commercial, contractual, and operational acumen.
Ability to operate at both the executive/strategic level and in the field when required.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related discipline preferred.
