About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Substation Construction Manager to lead the successful delivery of electrical substation construction projects throughout Texas. This position will primarily support projects in the San Antonio and Austin markets, with approximately 1-2 days per week spent on local project sites, while also providing oversight and support for projects across the wider Texas region as business needs require.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of substation construction projects from pre-construction through commissioning and closeout.

  • Oversee field operations, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements.

  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, utility clients, engineering teams, and internal stakeholders.

  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, productivity, and quality standards.

  • Conduct regular site visits across the San Antonio and Austin area, with additional travel throughout Texas as required.

  • Identify and proactively resolve construction issues to minimize project risk and delays.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and client-specific requirements.

  • Review project documentation, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and progress reports.

  • Lead construction meetings and provide regular updates to project leadership and clients.

  • Support project planning, resource allocation, and forecasting to ensure successful project delivery.


Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of experience managing electrical substation construction projects.

  • Strong understanding of high-voltage substation construction practices, including civil, structural, electrical, and commissioning activities.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Experience working with utility, EPC, or electrical infrastructure projects.

  • Strong knowledge of construction scheduling, budgeting, and contract administration.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel throughout Texas as required.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).

  • OSHA 30 certification.

  • Experience with projects ranging from distribution through transmission voltage classes.

  • Familiarity with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, or similar construction management software.
