We are seeking an experienced Field Service Manager to lead field operations and oversee the delivery of electrical testing and maintenance services across renewable energy, data center, and commercial & industrial (C&I) projects throughout Michigan and surrounding markets.
The Field Service Manager will have direct responsibility for Field Supervisors and Technicians, providing leadership, technical direction, resource planning, and operational oversight to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality.
This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced electrical professional who understands field testing and maintenance and knows how to build, lead, and develop high-performing field teams. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable managing people and operations as they are discussing technical requirements with customers, project managers, and field personnel.
Lead day-to-day field service operations for electrical testing and maintenance projects.
Directly manage, mentor, and develop Field Supervisors and Electrical Testing Technicians.
Establish field staffing plans and allocate personnel based on project schedules, skill sets, workload, and customer requirements.
Oversee the execution of electrical testing, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and related field services.
Ensure field teams have the appropriate personnel, tools, test equipment, materials, documentation, and training required to execute projects successfully.
Monitor field productivity, utilization, project progress, and overall operational performance.
Work closely with Project Managers and company leadership to coordinate field resources and ensure projects remain on schedule.
Provide technical and operational support to Field Supervisors and Technicians when challenges arise in the field.
Review job scopes, testing requirements, drawings, one-lines, specifications, and customer requirements to ensure field teams are properly prepared.
Oversee testing and maintenance activities including, as applicable:
Protective relay testing
Circuit breaker testing
Switchgear testing
Transformer testing
Grounding system testing
Insulation resistance testing
Cable testing
Battery and DC system testing
Electrical equipment commissioning
Preventive and predictive maintenance
Ensure field work is performed in accordance with applicable NETA, NFPA, IEEE, OSHA, and manufacturer requirements, as applicable.
Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company safety policies and NFPA 70E requirements.
Conduct or participate in pre-job planning, safety meetings, toolbox talks, and field audits.
Monitor field quality and ensure testing procedures, documentation, and reports meet company and customer expectations.
Identify operational issues, develop corrective actions, and continuously improve field execution processes.
Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, and performance management of field personnel.
Identify technician training and development needs and establish plans to improve technical capabilities across the field organization.
Manage field equipment, test instruments, vehicles, and other operational resources.
Ensure test equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and available when required.
Support project estimating and proposal development by providing input on labor requirements, equipment, scheduling, and field execution.
Participate in customer meetings and serve as an operational point of contact when appropriate.
Help develop and maintain strong customer relationships through reliable field execution and responsive service.
Travel to project sites throughout Michigan and surrounding markets as required.
A significant component of this role is people leadership. The Field Service Manager will be responsible for building a strong, accountable, and technically capable field organization.
Responsibilities include:
Directly supervise Field Supervisors and Technicians.
Establish clear expectations around safety, quality, productivity, professionalism, and customer service.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
Develop career paths and training plans for field employees.
Identify high-potential technicians and supervisors and support their progression into leadership roles.
Address performance and operational issues proactively and professionally.
Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
7+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, electrical field service, maintenance, or a related electrical discipline.
Demonstrated experience leading field technicians, supervisors, or electrical service teams.
Strong knowledge of medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems and equipment.
Experience managing electrical testing and maintenance operations is strongly preferred.
Experience in one or more of the following markets preferred:
Renewable energy / utility-scale solar
Data centers / mission-critical facilities
Commercial & industrial facilities
Manufacturing
Utility electrical infrastructure
Strong understanding of electrical testing procedures and field execution.
Familiarity with NETA testing standards and practices is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of electrical safety requirements, including NFPA 70E and OSHA.
Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, drawings, specifications, and equipment documentation.
Proven ability to manage field personnel, schedules, resources, and competing priorities.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to make sound decisions in time-sensitive field environments.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to travel to customer sites throughout Michigan and surrounding markets.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
NETA certification or significant experience working within a NETA-accredited electrical testing organization.
Electrical engineering, electrical technology, or related technical education.
Experience with electrical commissioning and startup.
Experience leading teams supporting data center or other mission-critical electrical infrastructure.
Experience with renewable energy facilities, substations, or utility-scale electrical systems.
Experience managing multiple field crews simultaneously.
Experience with field service management, scheduling, ERP, or project management systems.
OSHA or other relevant safety certifications.
The ideal candidate is a field-first leader with deep electrical testing experience and a proven ability to lead people.
You understand what it takes to execute complex electrical testing and maintenance work in the field, but your primary focus is building and leading the team that delivers it. You are comfortable holding supervisors and technicians accountable while also providing the technical guidance and support they need to succeed.
You should be highly organized, proactive, and comfortable balancing people, safety, technical execution, customer expectations, and operational performance. The successful candidate will have a strong presence in the field and will be viewed as a trusted leader by both the field organization and company leadership.
Base Salary: $130,000–$150,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
